I get asked this question everyday and my answer is always the same, “You are normal.” You may not like the appearance of your genitals, but women, like men, come in many different shape and sizes. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists does not define the appearance of “normal” female genitalia. The genitalia of a female consists of the same structures (anterior commissure, posterior commissure, clitoral hood, clitoral gland, labia minora, labia majora, perineal body, fossa navicularis, and hymenal ring), but these structures may be different in shape, size and color on every woman.
What are Common Surgical Procedures for Female Genitalia?
Women requests to have cosmetic gynecological procedures performed because they want their genitalia to appear as they desire. When cosmetic gynecology surgery is performed by an experienced cosmetic-plastic gynecologist and proper post-operative care is followed, the results should appear natural and more youthful. However, if your genitalia do not bother you and do not affect your self-esteem, then there is no need for surgery. If you are concerned with the size of your labia minora and clitoral hood or the color of the skin, then you could consider a labiaplasty with or without a clitoral hood reduction. If you feel that the skin of the vulva is flat and sagging, you may consider nonsurgical options such as ThermiVa to tighten the sagging skin or autologous fat transfer to the labia majora to plump the vulva for a more youthful appearance. Also, intimate bleaching is available to lighten the darker skin of the genitalia and other body areas. Please be aware of the fact that with normal aging and hormonal changes, one cannot guarantee
